Filmrecension - Billy Elliot

The movie is about a young boy named Billy Elliot, played by actor Jaime Bell. He lives a poor life with his father, brother and grandmother who is demented. His mother passed away a year ago, and Billy is still very sad. His father and brother were miners, but the miners strike has broken out and they are strikers that against all the people who are strike breakers.
One day when Billy is at his boxing class, a ballet class is in the same place. Billy is not that good at boxing so he has to stay after class, when all the boxers have left, and practice. But Billy is more interested in the ballet. He watches the girls dance and it reminds him of his mother and he kind of wants to join them. One of the dancer, Debby, tells him to join in and the ballet teacher lets him dance. Billy is good at it, and he likes the ballet. So instead of going to boxing, he goes to ballet instead.
But according to Billys father, ballet was not for boys, it was for girls. So when his father finds out he is very angry at Billy. But the dance teacher offers him privet lessons so he can continue to dance.
The dance teacher gives him an offer. There is a Ballet school in London where Billy could make his dreams come true. He wants to go on the audition, but he has to leave everyone and everything behind if he gets accepted…

The movie is very well done but a little hard to understand sometimes because they have a very thick accent. Many times the actors don't talk but you can se with they are thinking in their facial expressions. For example Billy, when he is not dancing he is frowning all the time and he looks very tens. But when he dance he relaxes and look much happier.

Because the movie plays out during the miners strike, 1984 - 1985, you get to see how it was to live in that time. Billys family who are strikers lives in a pretty scabby house, they don't have much money and therefore not so much expensive stuff. Billys father and Brother are also agains those who brakes their strikes, in the movie they call them scabs and every day when the buss with people that are going to the mines drives by, Billys father, brother and many other people attack the buss protected by cops. They throw things at it and scream scab at the people at the buss.
When Billy visit the dance teachers house you can see that they have completely different lives. They are in a higher class and have a fancy house and much more money. If you compare the dance teachers and Billys house you can se that the dance teachers hose is much bigger, is cleaner, has more expensive furniture and decorations and over all its just much fancier than Billys house.
It is very interesting to see the differens between the two families and it makes the move really good.
You also get to see the conflict between the strikers and the police. One time you get to see the police chasing Billys brother.

They also use dance to show emotion. Billy often dance when he is angry, frustrated or just really happy.
The movie also contains really good music, both classic like swan lake, and more modern music like London calling.

The bad thing about the movie is that things go pretty slow and that makes the movie kind of boring. It is not before the movie is close to the ending things really start to happen. Then you can already have lost interest in the movie and it is not that enjoyable anymore.

I give this movie 3 out of 5 point because it is good in many was, but it is still kind of boring because things go so slow.
